Vine to Bottle Journey
When was the last time you made something, really made something? We write emails, cook meals, collect paychecks, run errands, and drink good wine at the end of the day to wind down.
While most of us do a solid job meeting the everyday demands of life and work, we don’t often stop to create and savor. It’s time for a change.
The team at Bed & Barrel at Stonehouse Cellars has created an experience that will give you a break from the hustle and a way to engage with wine in a way that’s creative, rejuvenating, and relational. Welcome to our Vine to Bottle Journey!
The Vine to Bottle Journey is a two-year experience where you make wine from California’s most famous vines, alongside your friends and family, and then take home six cases of your very own Estate Cabernet Sauvignon. By reserving a handful of weekends on your calendar, you get an escape from the rat race and step into the life of a farmer and winemaker.
During year one, experience the entire lifecycle of a winegrape. As a team, we’ll adopt a block of our family-operated estate vineyard where you learn and participate in vine training, canopy management, and maintaining vineyard health.
The vines you’ll be farming are one of the last surviving clones of the famed Fay Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon vines. The wine that won the 1976 “Judgement of Paris” and chronicled in the movie “Bottle Shock” was produced from these vines. Our clippings were taken from Fay Vineyard in 1978 and have been thriving here for the last 40 years. They are among the last surviving clippings on their own rootstock and are truly a piece of California wine history.
After harvesting your vines, become a winemaker under the tutelage of our team of UC Davis-trained winemakers. We’ll develop and implement a fermentation protocol based on the style of wine you want to make. Then we’ll barrel our wine in new oak barrels to mature.
In the second year, you become the cellar master. During that time we’ll get together at regular intervals to analyze wine chemistry, rack, taste, and blend the wine as it progresses through aging, and then we’ll bottle it together.
At the end of the journey, you’ll take home six cases of your very own wine for you and yours to enjoy for years to come. With 72 bottles of wine, you can drink it over many years and enjoy how it develops with bottle aging. The real souvenir however, will be the relationships formed over 18-24 months of having fun and working hard together with your fellow “class” of budding vignerons and winemakers. Expect to meet approximately 15 times for wine tasting, vineyard cultivation, winemaking, and other fun gatherings.
We will begin the Vine to Bottle Journey this May. Members may be individuals, families, or businesses, and all members are encouraged to bring their friends and family to each event at no additional charge. The first four members to sign up will receive a $400 discount.
Mark your calendar for time to create and connect. Then in two years, you can check “Learn to Make Wine” off your bucket list. Please contact Jake at firstname.lastname@example.org to learn how you can become a part of the Vine to Bottle Journey.
